James Carton

Assistant Professor in Energy Sustainability & Hydrogen, Funded Investigator SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine, Dublin City University

Dr James Carton is Assistant Professor in Sustainable Energy in Dublin City University, Ireland, co-founder of Hydrogen Ireland, academic advisor to Hydrogen Mobility Ireland and member of the government of Ireland’s taskforce on sustainable aviation. Dr Carton’s research team focuses on energy sustainability & green Hydrogen deployment through techno-economic modelling, Power-to-X and renewable energy storage research. Dr Carton is hydrogen expert to the United Nations-ECE as well as being active on Task 42 with the IEA on Energy storage. Dr Carton is Principal Lead of HyLIGHT a 25 industry partner & government of Ireland SFI funded project with the Irish Marine Renewable Energy Institute to investigate the role of hydrogen in the energy system. Dr Carton is also Principal Lead of a SFI funded transport project within SFI funded all-island, multidisciplinary energy research programme NexSys to evaluate decarbonisation options for Irelands Heavy Duty Vehicles.

Dr Carton is Principal Lead of HEAR (Hydrogen Environment Protection, Analysis, Awareness & Review) an EPA funded project analysing hydrogen’s life cycle analysis in Heavy Duty Transport to inform policy makers on emissions and environment impacts.
