Paul Schutze

As the Hydrogen team lead in Bord na Móna, Paul is responsible for developing Bord na Móna’s business strategy for green hydrogen, biomethane and e-fuels. This strategy sets out short, medium and long term targets on how to best utilise Bord na Móna’s landbank and renewable energy projects to produce and supply green hydrogen to the market. Paul led the development of the Mt Lucas Green Hydrogen Project, which was awarded planning permission in June 2023, making it the first green hydrogen project with planning consent in the Republic of Ireland.

Prior to joining Bord na Móna, Paul was a Senior Project Manager for EirGrid, connecting a range of renewable energy projects to the electricity grid. He also prepared and submitted a planning application for a 10MW hydrogen project for Indaver Ireland.

Paul is providing guest lectures on “Business Development for Green Hydrogen Projects” at DCU and is currently the chair person for the Wind Energy Ireland Hydrogen Production Working Group.
