Research and Development Director Mercia Power

Courtney is a chartered engineer who is currently the Research and Development Director at Mercia Power, Ltd.  Mercia Power provides flexible energy to support both security of supply and the growth of renewable energy on the UK electricity grid.  Courtney’s key focus is on the opportunities to decarbonise existing assets in the company’s portfolio, and central to this is the potential role of Hydrogen.

Prior to joining Mercia Power, Courtney was a Senior Project Manager at National Grid Electricity Transmission, looking at their role in heat decarbonisation – from domestic to industrial challenges, as well as how it fits into the wider challenge of energy decarbonisation.   Courtney worked in many roles across the National Grid Group, including in Gas System Operation, Business Services, Gas Transmission Regulation and the Office of the CEO.

Courtney has a wide range of experiences, including laboratory research, teaching and working with industry and holds degrees in Physics, Technology and Engineering from both American and British universities. She has engaged with researchers, students, engineers, leaders, experts, regulators, and government officials, developing technical, business, communication, presentation, networking and financial skills.  From collecting and analysing data, mentoring, conducting and supervising research, and advising on long term strategies, she has gained a deep understanding of the energy industry in both the US and UK from many perspectives.
